This will actually be pretty boring, because most of my f-list lives within a 30km radius of me, and therefore shares my vernacular.

Nevertheless, a dialect meme! I added a couple of questions of my own, and had a great idea for another one, but I forgot what it was.

1. A body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks?

2. What the thing you push around the grocery store?

3. A metal container to carry a meal in?

4. The thing that you cook bacon and eggs in?

5. The piece of furniture that seats three people?

6. The device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof?

7. The covered area outside a house where people sit in the evening?

8. Carbonated, sweetened, non-alcoholic beverages?

9. A flat, round breakfast food served with syrup?

10. A long sandwich designed to be a whole meal in itself?

11. The piece of clothing worn by men at the beach?

12. Shoes worn for sports?

13. Putting a room in order?

14. A flying insect that glows in the dark?

15. The little creature (arthropod) that curls up into a ball?

16. The children's playground equipment where one kid sits on one side and goes up while the other sits on the other side and goes down?

17. How do you eat your pizza? [No, I don't know what that has to do with it]

18. When private citizens put up signs and sell their used stuff?

19. The evening meal?

20. The children's game where one person has the task of catching any other whereupon they are given the same task?

21. The things you wear over your eyes to protect them from the sun?

22. The red condiment which is often put on sausages?

Dude, I live in a totally different english speaking country, so.

1. A body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks?
A stream, or creek if it's very shallow.

2. What the thing you push around the grocery store?
A trolley.

3. A metal container to carry a meal in?
A tin, or a lunchbox.

4. The thing that you cook bacon and eggs in?
A frying pan.

5. The piece of furniture that seats three people?
Sofa or couch. Sofa is usually only a 2 seater, a couch bigger.

6. The device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof?
Gutter, and drain pipe.

7. The covered area outside a house where people sit in the evening?
A deck (covered or not) or a veranda (usually covered). The name often has more to do with the size than whether it's covered or not.

8. Carbonated, sweetened, non-alcoholic beverages?
Soft drink, or simply the brand name eg. Coke, Sprite, Fanta etc. Sometimes also fizzy drink, but that's used more for/by kids.

9. A flat, round breakfast food served with syrup?
Pancake? Or crumpet or English muffin, depending on what you're having. Syrup would usually be golden not maple, and goes with any breakfast food.

10. A long sandwich designed to be a whole meal in itself?
A sub, or a bread roll, if referring just to the break itself.

11. The piece of clothing worn by men at the beach?
Board shorts. Speedos if they're the underwear like ones.

12. Shoes worn for sports?
Sports shoes. No really.

13. Putting a room in order?
Tidying.

14. A flying insect that glows in the dark?
A firefly. We don't have them, we have glow worms, they don't fly.

15. The little creature (arthropod) that curls up into a ball?
?

16. The children's playground equipment where one kid sits on one side and goes up while the other sits on the other side and goes down?
A Seasaw.

17. How do you eat your pizza? [No, I don't know what that has to do with it]
Cut into triangular slices, with your fingers.

18. When private citizens put up signs and sell their used stuff?
Garage sale.

19. The evening meal?
Dinner.

20. The children's game where one person has the task of catching any other whereupon they are given the same task?
Tag or tiggy.

21. The things you wear over your eyes to protect them from the sun?
Sun glasses.

22. The red condiment which is often put on sausages?
Tomato sauce.

Glow worms don't fly! \o/ Dude, you gave me an answer to a question that I was too lazy to wikipedia, and bored enough to contemplate for the last 2 hours. Fireflies didn't even occur to me until I read the answers of the person I gacked it from.

I forgot about crumpets, but you're the second person to have mentioned them. CRUMPETS ARE THE BEST BREAKFAST FOOD EVER. Nom. :D
