Unimpressed to be woken up by the painters at 7 this morning. I rebelled and stayed in bed until 8, but it felt too weird to be in bed with 4 painters in the house and no curtains on my windows, and they were making too much noise to actually sleep, anyway.

Hopefully, they will be done by the end of tomorrow. In other news, I am *hanging out* to go get my copy of Panic(!)'s new album, and am also excited about the DVD that FOB are releasing soon. Anyone know when it comes out in Australia? I laughed at Joe's promo vid- it is indeed like eating apple pie and icecream, or eating dessert before dinner, and nobody could ask for anything more, because you guys are made of awesome. Joe, I love you and your zany hair and serious eyes. Oh yes, yes I do.

[livejournal.com profile] dzurlady, if you want to hear a bit from Spartacus League before agreeing to come to the next show, check them out here.

General info on the band: Spartacus League are a local band (Melbourne, for the non-locals on my flist), and if any of you know Jess, who plays cello and is generally awesome and came to the [livejournal.com profile] monucs cocktail party at [livejournal.com profile] apex_chio's house on Saturday night, you know one member of the band already. Jess wouldn't sign up to anything that sucks, so you know they're not bad! < /pimping>

It would seem that Melbourne was hit with quite the storm this afternoon.
We had hours of winds upwards of 90km/hr. It took down several trees in my street, and in the park nearby. It took off the wooden edging to the front of our house. It took off the roof of a house two streets away, and the guttering of another house was lying rather pitifully in the front garden.

Eventually it started to rain, heavily, but it didn't last long. So why, then, are all the streets flooded? My guess would be that the wind brought down so much detritus that all the gutters in the streets became blocked. There are cars parked in giant puddles that reach most of the way up the tyres. Oops, no. It just started raining again.

Whole parts of the city have been cut off from power. At least 5 train lines have been cancelled until further notice, and at least one tram service was also cancelled, to the best of my knowledge.

Two people have been killed- one woman was killed in Mentone when a brick wall was blown over on top of her. Don't know about the other one; I'm getting the wider city news second-hand from [livejournal.com profile] apex_chio (as opposed to the local damage that I can see myself). SES Emergency Services have been so swamped with calls for help that their phone line crashed.

And, even though that storm is over, the weather bureau predicts another powerful storm for tonight, complete with lightning, hail, rain, and...more wind. It's gonna be an interesting one.

Mum and I have taken out candles and matches, just in case we lose power.

Til next we meet, adieu. *shelters from storm*
