...ow. But also, om nom nom. Back and shoulder pain are worth the noticeable improvement.
Last night was really good! I had a bbq dinner at my boss' house, in honour of an international guest who is in town at the moment; the gathering was reasonably small, but I had a genuinely good time (and got called 'mummy' by a 21 month old, who got me mixed up with his real mummy). I then moved locations, to join a bunch of people for cocktails in Fitzroy. I didn't actually drink any cocktails, but the company was lovely! I got to see both
my_stro and
whitealinta for the first time in ages!
quazoki, her Irish friend and I were the last ones there, and
quazoki decided to crash at my place when we finally retired for the evening. We decided we were hungry at 2:30am, so we made a mini revisedandreduced!guacamole (avocado with tomato, lemon juice and salt - so it was lacking capsicum and bacon and onion, but we were too lazy to do a full version) and ate it with corn chips on my bed.
Despite the late night, we both slept badly, because of the heat, and because mum woke us up at about 8 because she was being unnecessarily loud in planning her day. Because of this, we were feeling a bit under the weather, but we both perked up immensely at the mere mention of coffee, so we settled on a leisurely brunch together at a gorgeous little cafe opposite the South Melbourne Market. We had an animated conversation on the merits of technical work, and compared notes on studies and exercises and scales. Hee!
I then spent the afternoon avoiding the very hot heat (a new Victorian record of 46.6o C) and working on my current project: jewellery making on the fly. No skill involved on my part, just trial and error and a "here's-one-somebody-else-prepared-earlier" necklace to guide me. I like challenges, even if I break a few things in the process, and even if I have to circumvent deficiencies in material supplies with creative substitution.
Trying not to think too hard on the news- it's all bleak. More than 50% of Queensland flooded, with more torrential rain on the way, yet the entire southern half of the continent is dying of thirst. What crops there are to be had with so little water for years on end have now all been burned and stewed and baked on the trees or in the ground. Two work colleagues were in danger of losing their home to last week's bushfires. They were lucky, but others weren't.

Thank goodness for the cool change! *opens window*
