Dreamwidth, freshers, and other shinies
May. 3rd, 2009 07:53 pmI don't know what I did right, but I somehow scored an invite code to DreamWidth, so...hurrah? I am why_am_i over there, too, so feel free to add me. I wanted to change my user name, but decided against it because having uniformity between multiple accounts can be quite handy.
I'll have to have a play with it and learn how to make the most of it, but it's currently in my (large) list of 'things I will do when I get around to it'. Ha.
monucs camp was pretty damn fine. We got horribly mildly lost getting there in the dark on Friday night (and collected 2 other lost carloads of people along the way), but we all made it without requiring a search and rescue team - win! Britannia Park holds many fond memories for me, as a former brownie/guide.
joshwithguitar spent some time at 3am last night teaching me the basics of guitar. I was keen, because I wish to not make a fool of myself (again) when I next see my yankee relatives. Before that, we had a 'jam session' (for lack of a better term), along with D and A; everybody encouraged me to at least have a go at improv, classical violin style, so I did.
joshwithguitar patiently made up chords as I clumsily fumbled together a melody in A minor. I was even quite pleased with the result! Lol - thanks for not throwing me out, guys. D then sang us some of her rather splendid compositions, and I was dead impressed.
Revue was wicked! Highlights:
pezzae sang beautifully (with
seagoon at the piano),
nouv_ella stunned everybody with that lovely voice of hers,
splatchtrock cleverly rewrote 'The Lumberjack Song' to revolve around choristers,
actrealdon presented part two of 'Everything's Funnier in a Scottish Accent', using an Avril Lavigne medley to hilarious effect, while
dzurlady got everybody to do a conga line.
Guys, guys, stop the press. I MADE IT TO A CAMP REHEARSAL. I know, you've all just collapsed in shock. Sorry about that. In keeping with my own tradition, I did not make it to the first quarter of Saturday's rehearsal, as my doona was a far more attractive option. When at last I emerged to face the day, I decided to take my doona with me; it was a wise move, as rehearsal was quite cold! Conductor made me sight-sing second sop for the last quarter, because all the Real Second Sops buggered off and the two who were remaining were both struggling. Now, as I was sight-singing 1st sop for most of the rest of camp, I'm not actually all that much better off in terms of learning my own part than I was before camp, but then again, I like a good challenge.
Finally, and in conclusion, yay for freshers! Seriously, you guys are awesome, and very talented! Also brave - nobody seems to have been seriously scared to the point of not returning, and fresher participation in social activities such as costume night is at an all-time high - you guys rock!
